Some Truly Fine Bubbles
Vouvray is an appellation that lies along the Loire Valley east of Tours. The vineyard soils hold stony limestone, and flint and chalk mixed with clay, imparting a distinctive mineral character to the wine, which is 100% Chenin Blanc. This full-bodied example has very fine bubbles, a clear golden color with bronze highlights, and persistent small bead. The aromas show a ripe nose, bright and elegant first evokes nuts (hazelnut), then ripe fruit (pear, pineapple), and fine floral notes of lime. A light touch Empyreumatic (toasted, grilled), coats everything. The attack is full wrapped. The material reveals fresh, with a nice smooth evolution. Rhythmic and graceful vinous final with an exquisite aftertaste on brioche and candied fruits.
An excellent value, as a tete de cuvee Champagne would be many times this price, this sparkling Vouvray offers fine bottom-line bang for the buck.
This Vouvray Brut goes well with full-bodied foods such as seafood Wellington; blanquette de veau; crab casserole; chicken with vegetables topped with mashed potato; potato cakes as a vegetarian center-of-plate dish.
