About the Wine Maker
Bodegas Beronia is quintessentially Rioja. Situated in the Ebro River Valley, it is influenced by the Sierra de Contabria mountain range and by the Sierra de la Demanda. The vineyards enjoy a Mediterranean climate, with some snowfall in january, and warm, sunny summers.
The winery is named after the “Berones,” n the 3rd century BC the Rioja region was inhabited by the Berones, a warrior people of Celtic origin who inhabited the Rioja region in the 3rd century BC and whose settlements extended from the Sierra de Cantabria in the north to the Sierra de la Demanda to the south. This warrior people, who also grew crops, raised cattle, made pottery and metalwork, called their land Beronia.
In 1973 a group of businessmen and friends of a Gastronomic Society founded Bodegas Beronia, named in tribute to the primitive inhabitants of this beautiful land. A passion for fine food and high quality wines was the starting point for the famous aged red wines that the bodega produces. Its majestic tower commands a sweeping view of the estate’s 55-year-old vineyards, where the best Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha, and Viura grape varieties are grown.
As well as their own grapes, Bodegas Beronia maintain a close relationship with another 150 growers who additionally supply Beronia with grapes, ensuring that only the best-quality grapes are selected.
About the Wine
The Bodegas Beronia 'Classico' Crianza is 83%Tempranillo 15% Garnacha and 2% Mazuelo. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and is directly followed by slow malolactic fermentation. The wine is then transferred to four 250.000 litre depostis to ensure the homogenity of the wine and then it is aged in mixed American and French oak barrels for 12 months. The wine spends a short time in bottles before being released to the market.
This results in a wine with a red garnet colour with a violet rim. On the nose reminders of fresh fruit such as strawberry, blackberry and cherry with touches of liquorice and notes of fine wood. On the mouth smooth and fruity. Fresh and well balanced with notes of chocolate and coffee.
