Westake Vineyards is a small, family operated business committed to producing quality wines from their vineyards in the renowned northern sub-regions of Koonunga and Moppa in the Barossa Valley.
Their aim is to highlight the soils and seasons in which these vines grow and to celebrate their differences, ensuring that each vintage will have its own story to tell.
By combining Darren's colourful convict past and Suz's traditional Barossa heritage they look forward to creating their own unique story.
Westlake 'Albert's Block' Shiraz was named in honour of Suz's Pop and Father, Carl Albert Kalleske and John Albert Kalleske.
Small batches of fruit, sourced from varying soil types across the vineyard are fermented separately in open fermenters before maturing in aged French and American oak.
This is a delicate and fresh wine with a fragrant nose and a hint of lightly toasted oak. Soft and smooth with red fruits, dark cherries on the palate, and fine tannins give this mid-full bodied wine great balance. A lovely drink and a superb partner to many dishes.
Dense and dark. Vanilla, blackberries, plums and spices on the nose, and a big mouthful of Barossa on the palate. Big and richly textured it has layers of dark berried fruits, aniseed, chocolate and olives. Big ripe tannins and balanced acidity bring the beauty of this wine home.
