Top quality 'Grower' French Champagne
Didier Chopin is a relatively new ‘independent’ grower/ producer Champagne, owned and run by Didier & Karine Chopin, who together have 50 years experience in the French wine industry and their two children In Champlat-Boujacourt, in La Vallee de la Marne, 25kms for Epernay & Reims. Their first wine was produced in 1989 with fruit sourced from Karine’s family vineyard, today they own & produce Champagne solely from their own vineyards.
Now 20 years on, the family has started to develop a reputation producing high quality cuvees from their family vineyard and their passion for their own style of which includes extended time on lees in the bottle, Whereas most other producers NV cuvees have up-to 18months on lees, Didier’s cuvees have minimum 3-5 years creating wines which have much more complexity and structure compared to their rivals from the region, especially at this price point.
The Grand Reserve Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay from Valley de la Marne from 3 different family plots, wine is assembled over 3 years (meaning 3 vintages) Its a dryer style being Blanc de Blanc, a nose of pear and brioche (cooked bread). Quite delicate, and creamy from the extra lees contact, nice style.
Whilst all the big name French bubbles have had major price rises in the last decade, Chopin is a true 'grower' Champagne made from their own grapes and made at there own cellars. Exceptional quality for and value
