On The Road From Madrid to La Coruña.
About the WineMaker
The history of Félix Solís, begins with the lifelong career of the father of the current owners, Mr Félix Solís Fernández, who in 1952 moved with his family from his home town of Villanueva de los Infantes to Valdepeñas, a city renowned for its long grape and winegrowing traditions.
In Valdepeñas, the Solís family, whose history in the wine business dates back to the end of the 19th century, bought the renowned “Casa del Huerto del Cura”, where they started to produce wine. Today it is known as the “Viña Albali” winery and acts as the headquarters of Félix Solís, S.A. It has retained the original warehouses, the tinajas (huge earthenware jars), the barrels (where some of its best wines are aged), the underground cellar and even the structure of this typical ancestral home of La Mancha.
Since its early beginnings, Bodegas Felix Solis has grown to the point where it now owns the largest automated and air-conditioned wine warehouse in Europe, with the capacity of storing eighteen million bottles, a figure which it intends to increase by seventy percent to thirty million bottles.
About the Wine
This wine is made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in the Denominación de Origen of Rueda where this French grape variety was first introduced in 1992. The winery is excellently located, just a few metres from the main road which links Madrid with La Coruña.
The grapes are harvested during the night at 10º C. After crushing, the must is left for maceration with the skins for between 6 and 8 hours to allow the aromas to develop to their full. Fermentation is carried out at 16º C.
Félix Solís Avantis is placed among the top Spanish wine companies and is also one of the most important worldwide. Félix Solís combines artisan traditions with state-of-the-art technology when making its wine, thereby guaranteeing efficiency throughout the process and the maximum quality of the end product. Despite its international success, Félix Solís Avantis, which dates back to 1952, still maintains its family structure, the sole proprietors being the four Solis brothers -Félix, Pedro, Juan Antonio and Manuel.
The Bodegas Felix Solis 'Blume' Sauvignon Blanc is pale yellow with a hint of green, the nose is concentrated with a wide range of fruits that include citrus, mango, pineapple and other tropical fruits. The palate is fresh, fruity and lively with a light and crisp finish.
It combines well with a wide variety of dishes, but especially fish and seafood. Serve at 8-10ºC.
