An everyday classic Barbaresco!
Castello di Verduno has had history of Barolo wine since 1838, when the Castle was purchased by Charles Albert of Savoy, and the King commissioned the soldier and expert winemaker, General Staglieno, with the making of a great wine from the finest vineyards of nebbiolo grapes: the Barolo of Verduno Castle.
Ever since, the Castle’s cellars have never ceased to house ageing noble red wines, with the Burlotto family, owners of the Castle since the early 1900s, continuing the wine-making tradition of the House of Savoy.
Today, with estates on the hills around the villages of both Verduno and Barbaresco Castello di Verduno proudly produces the two most high-prized oenological gems of the Langa: Barolo and Barbaresco. This invaluable, singular combination was made possible by the marriage of Gabriella Burlotto to Franco Bianco, whose family have been producing Barbaresco for four generations.
This Barbaresco is made by a selection of Nebbiolo grapes grown in several estate vineyards in the Barbaresco are (Rabaj,Rabaja-bass and Faset). The soil is composed by the white earth, with a high limestone content, known as the “Marne di Sant’ Agagt”(30% sand –55%clay -15% limestone). From this kind of soil elegant and fragrant wines can be obtained.
The grapes are handed picked, sorting only the best bunches and placing them into a 20 kilos baskets. The harvest took place on October 9th 2008. The maceration in stainless steel tanks lasted 20 days, with daily punching down of the cap.
The wine is ruby red with the nuances that are typical of the Nebbiolo variety. Fresh and clean at the nose, which conjures up red fruits and flowers blending perfectly with the aromas resulting from the aging of the wine in big wooden casks. Appealing acidity and a nicely tannic finish make this wine approachable, with good length.
