Old School Special
Hailing from the region of Piedmont (Piemonte in Italian), in the north-western corner of the Italian Peninsula, is arguably Italy's finest wine region. The name Piemonte means 'the foot of the mountains', and the surrounding Alps and Apennines are also largely responsible for its favorable climate.
The Mascarello Villero is a superb expression of the Villero sub-zone in the village of Castiglione Falletto. Classic, powerful and full- bodied, the Villero, like most Mascarello wines, will continue to evolve and develop and reward those with the patience to age this wine.
The Mascarellos practice “natural” viticulture, and prune to limit yields. All Harvesting is by hand. There Wine making shows the utmost respect for tradition and the terrior – simple fermentations with the native yeasts, and long aging in large, neutral barrel.
This wine is has a brilliant nose that’s elegant, floral and perfumey with sweet red fruits. On the palate this offers great acidity, fine but firm tannins and a long dry finish.Be sure to pair this wine with red meats in general, game or mature cheeses to truly bring the best out of it. This is quite feminine for a classically structured Barolo. Should age and develop for 10-15+ years. A truly excellent wine to be enjoyed around those who truly matter in your life.
