The Royal Wine of Trentino
About the Wine Maker
Mezzacorona lies at the foot of the majestic Italian Dolomites. Its vineyards with pergola trellising, characteristic of the region, run from Lake Garda to the foothills of the towering Dolomites. Mezzacorona is surrounded by a region rich in natural beauty, castles, history and tradition. Mountain peaks of the Dolomites alternate with plains and natural terraces, where vines have been cultivated forever. A fresh and wild breeze blows from the over 400 lakes and numerous glaciers of the surrounding mountains, peaking at over 9,000 feet.
Thanks to a spectrum of microclimates, ranging from Mediterranean to Alpine, and profiting from over a century of winemaking experience, Mezzacorona planted varietals in the zones best tailored to the needs of each varietal, allowing them to flaunt the aromas and flavour of their terroir.
Through state-of-the-art facilities and modern winemaking techniques, Mezzacorona is able to provide 100% single varietal wines characterised by all the vivid elegance and crispiness typical of the Italian Dolomites.
As the winemaker intended, their wines are crafted to be a perfect complement to Italian and International cuisine.
Mezzacorona constantly receives strong ratings, and is renowned for its consistent quality, vintage after vintage.
About the Wine
The Riserva wines are Mezzacorona's pride and joy. Made from selected well performing vineyards, the wines are often yard sticks of style and quality, as well as remarkable value.
This rather different red wine is made from the native teroldego grape variety. Teroldego is an indigenous varietal of Trentino that thrives in the Piana Rotaliana. The name of this complex grape is derived from “Tiroler Gold”, a name it was given by the Court of Vienna in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Amongst the Trentino wines it is certainly the most famous and rightfully called the royal wine of Trentino.
Made only in remarkable vintages from hand selected grapes, this wine is aged for two years in oak. It has a an intense ruby red colour with a pleasant aroma of ripe fruit, prunes and blackcurrant. It has a full body and the pleasant tannins balance well with fruity and light barrique.
Ideal with stews, roasted or grilled red meats, and aged cheeses.
