About the Wine Maker
Narkoojee, meaning ‘place of flowers”, was originally a dairy farm that had been run by Harry Friend’s parents since the 1940’s. Harry planted the first vines on the property in 1980. Since that time, Narkoojee has achieved a remarkable reputation as one of the best wine producers in the Gippsland region. Harry and son Axel consistently produce wines of great varietal intensity and complexity.
About the Wine
This wine is named after Harry and Val’s first grandchild, Lily Grace Friend. The excellent 2014 season has produced fruit of exceptional quality and the wine has been matured in older French oak barriques to allow the varietal fruit expression free play. There is a bit of old school in this wine. Its style is bigger, richer, more toasty, but at the same time has some nice leaner characters that seem to be a style of today’s time. This wine will suit most palates.
Creamy and toasty, great complexity but at the same time showing leaner fruit characters, of white peach, with nice mineral finish. It is an ideal accompaniment to seafood and will develop further over three to 5 years.
