From The Legend of King Arthur!
About the Wine Maker
In 2003 a group of mates pooled old white utes and new-ish tractors to grow the best grapes from the best vineyards. All they wanted to do was to taste their fruit in their wine, so they charged their winemaker, Mr. Ben Riggs, with one goal; to make wine true to vineyard so long as it was a bloody good drink!
Arthurian Legend had it that whoever could pull Excalibur from the stone would rules as king under the Avalon Tree. Zonte’s Avalon Tree is a top picnic spot, they even have a round table.
The Avalon Tree vineyard is on a 40 million year old alluvial plain, nestled between two rivers adjacent to Lake Alexandrina, upstream from the River Murray's sea mouth. It is an oasis in a cool desert with vines planted on their own roots, in maritime red sands that sit over pre-Cambrian Limestone and is ideal for growing grapes.
About the Wine
The Zonte's Footstep 'Avalon Tree' Cabernet Sauvignon hangs about after you have tasted it with precise ‘line and length’ that lingers on and on with cassis. Juicy, interesting and complex but with the fruit fullness of youth. Minutes later, the flavour still lingers.
It has an opaque, black dark crimson red colour with deep, dark crimson red hue. The nose exhibits aromas of ripe mulberry and blackcurrant followed by some cedar and spice. The palate boasts plenty of richness, making it a very approachable wine to drink now despite its relative youth. Drink and enjoy over the next 2-3 years.
