ABOUT THE WINERY

Château Dauzac is a winery in the Margaux appellation of the Bordeaux region of France, in the commune of Labarde. The wine produced here was classified as one of eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Since 1988, the estate has belonged to the insurance company (MAIF), but is managed by the André Lurton group. In 2004, his daughter Christine Lurton-Bazin de Caix took charge of the property.

The Domaine comprises 297 acres (120 ha), of which 111 acres (45 ha) are planted, 60% with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 40% with Merlot. The average age of vines is around 30 years. The Château produces the main wine, Château Dauzac, from the 104 acres (42 ha) planted in the Margaux appellation.

VINTAGE

The climate at the beginning of the year was oceanic; there was then a long period of sun and heat until September 13, when precipitation allowed the vines to reach full maturity. An Indian summer in October resulted in the longest harvest in the history of Château Dauzac (21 days), enabling us to pick the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at peak maturity.

Cabernet Sauvignon 71% - Merlot 29%

Oak - 100% French for 15 months, 68% new barrels

TASTING NOTES

The 2016 vintage is extremely rich and precise without being excessive, revealing bright fruit and a dense and complex raw material. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend gives it an exceptional acidity/ alcohol balance that is an indication of a great vintage.

We just love 2016 Bordeaux reds, great follow on from the 2015 vintage, but 16's for us just have some beautiful aromatics that just draw into the wines, and then there's the balance. LUV EM!!!
