Trevelen Farm 'Great Southern' Riesling 2016

Australia

RED 5 Star Winery

'Made with 100% free-run juice. Bright, gleaming quartz-green, it throws down the gauntlet to South Australia; while it is awash with fused lime/lemon/apple flavours, there is a steely backbone of finely detailed acidity that will hold the wine together for 20 years or more.' James Halliday 96/100

Trevelen Farm is a family run business based on environmentally sustainable principles. Owned by John and Katie Sprig, Trevelen Farm has a family history in wine making dating back to the 1850’s. The current vineyard was established on the family farm in 1993, and it is the most northern vineyard in the great southern region of Western Australia. This protects the vineyard from diseases caused by coastal rain and reduces the use of artificial disease control substances. Climate is slightly warmer than the coast, but still benefits from the cool sea breezes. In 2008 John and Katie Sprigg decided to pass ownership of their 1300ha wool, meat and grain-producing farm to their son Ben and wife Louise. However, they have kept control of the vineyard and have also established partner vineyards in the nearby Frankland River sub–region, giving Trevelen Farm a wider choice for fruit selection.

The wines are carefully made by James Kellie, formerly of Howard Park in Denmark, who has built a ‘state of the art’ 500 tonne winery, where he carefully applies his passion to crafting Trevelen’s award winning wines.

Trevelen Farms success is evidenced by their growing export trade to Japan, Macau and China.

The Trevelen Farm 'Great Southern' Riesling is straw coloured with a lifted floral, citrus blossom nose and a vibrant lemon, lemon meringue palate. This vintage has the makings of a very long lasting vintage , and will develop for many years.

Enjoy!
